2023 Impact Update

Katia

Katia is a young woman in her 30’s who our team came into contact with through our anti trafficking network. We quickly learned that she was not originally from Lima and had moved to the city with her boyfriend who then abandoned her and her two small children. Being alone in a strange city with no friends, no money, and no way to get home was terrifying, and although she tried to save some money to start over, she was robbed and left with nothing. Believing that she had no other options and no way to support her children, she went to an area of town that is known for prostitution and was bought and sold for the first time that day. When our team met Katia, we were able to help her leave the streets and find safe work at a restaurant. This year we were able to help reunite her with her family in another province of Peru. Today she is working on a farm, her children are happy, healthy, and enrolled in school, and our team is still in contact and providing her with support

Camila

When our team met Camila, she was in her 40’s and working on the street because she believed that was the only way she could provide for her grandson, who she was raising by herself. Camila, like many women we work with, had not finished school and had never created an email address, used a desktop computer, or created a resume. Our team helped her get an ID card, create her first resume, and fill out all of the legal paperwork required to work in Peru. Camila was able to pick out business attire that she liked from our clothes closet where we have professional outfits for the women to wear to interviews, and our team saw her go from someone who was lacking confidence in her ability to find honorable work to someone who went to her job interviews with confidence. Camila got a job working at a business that sells kitchen appliances and cookware and is now reunited with her family and living with her son and his family.
